With so many new diet fads and supplements being shoved in our faces every day, it’s no wonder people are having a long time losing those unwanted pounds. The amount of pseudoscience, scams, and disinformation being released to the public is staggering, and one has to wonder if there even is a product out there that actually does what it says without, causing any harm or negative side effects in the process. As it turns out, there are ways that you can achieve your fitness and weight loss goals, and it’s a lot closer to home than you think. There are many ways on how to lose weight naturally, and it’s time to take back the control of what you put into your body. It’s not just about eating your greens, counting calories, (which you shouldn’t have to do anyway) or cutting back on your favorite treats.
You Are What You Eat
Although this may seem like an obvious one, your food plays a very important role in how your body decides what to carry around and what to let go. The world is full of products that aren’t even on the same playing field as real food, and they are merely food like products that are, for lack of a better word, “designed” to be able to pass through humans. There is even evidence suggesting that these food -like products are altering our DNA, so just because they can, however, doesn’t mean they should. Don’t just reduce, but completely cut out pre-packaged foods, soft drinks, simple carbs and other sugar-loaded products. It doesn’t have to be cold turkey, as this method is known for its failure and subsequent rebounding effect (where you stop for a long time, then binge) and will actually do more harm than good.
The human body as we know it has gone through a very extensive and deliberate evolutionary process and over the last few hundred years the way we eat has changed drastically, which has put a strain on our bodies. In a short period of time, we have gone from hunter-gatherers, which from a linear perspective we spent the most time as, to farmer/herders, to what can be only be described as mass consumers. Going back to the basics is the best advice on how to lose weight naturally. Though it may seem like turning away from snacks, fast food, and sweets can be difficult, if not impossible, it’s worth the feeling of self-mutilation in the end. An easy way to get back on track is to ask questions. Where does it come from? Do you know how it is produced? Could I make it myself with natural ingredients? If you can, why don’t you? These are just a couple of the ways you need to start thinking about what you eat, because the minute these questions start to matter to you, the more you will realize just how much of what you’re eating is not the best for you.
Supplement with Nature
“But it’s bland and boring, and nothing ever tastes good” is one of the most common excuses people use when going astray from their healthy eating habits. If you aren’t equipped with the knowledge and the supply to keep things interesting and a little different every time, your new meal plan can get old very quick, and you will begin to slowly cheat your way back to your regular, comfortable, and unhealthy lifestyle. You don’t have to drink 10-12 glasses of just plain water, you can add lemon, lime or other fruit juices to it (squeezed, not bottled, for obvious reasons) as these things are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes and so much more. Black coffee? If you want, but if you like sugar with it, all natural honey is a wonderful substitute, as it adds a unique flavor and gives you an extra little energy boost so you can tackle your workout more effectively.
Herbs and spices can also turn any chicken, beef, or pork from dull to fantastic, and the more you sue them, the more unique combinations you can come up with. Nature has always been able to provide us with what we need, and the reason, why we are no longer naturally fit and healthy, is because we’ve steered away from what’s natural for us.
Another great little tip on how to lose weight naturally while looking to sweeten things up a bit is cinnamon. It is not only good at adding flavor, but regulating blood sugar levels as well. Blood sugars have a direct impact on weight loss and gain, as it is the primary regulator on how hungry we are, when, and what our energy levels are like. Adding a little more cinnamon to your daily routine is a sure-fire way to get things going in the right direction.
Don’t Just Work Out, Get Out
A lot of people find it incredibly challenging to be in a gym. It’s typically crowded, the wandering eyes leave you feeling intimidated and sometimes even discouraged, and you’re absolutely terrified of looking like a sweaty mess. Leave the negative thoughts at the door, because these people are not there to judge you. They are there to do a job, a job that just so happens to be the exact same thing as you when you’re there. They are putting in their time to make sure they stay fit, healthy, and in the best shape of their lives. Just like you. It doesn’t have to be all work and no play though. Making friends with people in the gym is actually a lot easier than you may think. If you see someone on a machine or doing an exercise that you want to try, wait until they are in between sets or when they’re finished and ask them to help you out. Start a conversation, because if they see you’re committed, they will be more likely to give you a hand. Most gym buddies that meet inside tend to become buddies outside as well, giving you more opportunity to find ways to live better and healthier.
Let’s be honest though, some people just can’t do the gym thing. For reasons either known or unknown, they can’t stick to a program, and they feel congested or unmotivated while they are there. This is not a problem because before there were gyms, there was the great outside. Use your environment to stimulate your mind and your muscles, like going for a jog, hike, bike ride, or even just a walk to a part of town you’ve never been. The more steps you take, the better off you’ll be.
